Counseling can be instrumental in the development of skills that help teens and their families effectively confront and cope with uncertainties and conflicts. With the help of a counselor, a person can explore feelings and express them better, examine beliefs, and work toward making healthy changes.
The prevention department’s job is to get in front of issues such as substance abuse and violence within our community and provide services and solutions to help stop these problems from occurring in the first place. Many studies have estimated that for every dollar spent on preventative work around drugs and alcohol, between five and twenty dollars that would have been saved on treatment or other related costs are saved. Prevention work is critical to creating a community that is free of violence, drugs and alcohol related problems, not just one that knows how to deal with them after they’ve occurred.
