“Every 15 minutes someone in the United States dies in an alcohol-related traffic collision, today I died… I can’t believe I didn’t have the chance to say good-bye” was what someone who experienced a mock DUI crash scene said, after told to express what they felt when they had to put themselves in a situation of basically dying. This year the Prevention Youth Council was there at the Every 15 minutes scene as in past years. As always the emotional event brought sentiments of surprise to everyone who was there. “It’s not what you expect, because when you see it you’re blown away” were the words of a young man who was part of the crash. This years event took place in North Monterey County High School. In total the event held 20 participants who ranged from acting as the victims themselves to parents, doctors, police officers, fire fighters, and a grim reaper. One could feel the ambient as an indescribable and shocking experience altogether. The event itself pin-points the very reality of teens mixing alcohol with driving and the tragic ending it can all bring. As the council for the prevention of alcohol as well as other drugs we were glad to be a part of the experience and would like to thank the various agencies and businesses who helped in making it all happen.
Here’s a list of those agencies:
AMERICAN MEDICAL RESPONSE
CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL
MONTEREY COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE
